The design of a dual‐polarization wideband circular patch antenna excited by using both an aperture‐coupled feed and a gap‐coupled probe feed is presented. The circular patch antenna has a thick air substrate, and both of the 10 dB return‐loss impedance bandwidths for the two polarizations can be greater than 10%. In addition, the proposed design can have high isolation (≤−32 dB) between the two feeding ports for the entire impedance bandwidth and good cross‐polarization levels for the two polarizations. Details of the antenna design are described, and experimental results of a prototype antenna are presented. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 26: 37–39, 2000.
