This letter describes a modal‐expansion analysis of a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna fed by an embedded coaxial probe. The analysis is facilitated by introducing a cylindrical magnetic wall to enclose the resonator, and then the resulting structure can be treated as a cascaded waveguide discontinuity. Numerical results are presented and compared with experimental data available in the literature. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 26: 13–16, 2000.
