A new design of a dual‐frequency printed slot antenna loaded by an open‐ring conducting strip and capacitively fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is demonstrated. Owing to the loaded conducting strip, the proposed antenna is separated into two slot regions, and can be considered to consist of two slot antennas: one rectangular slot loop antenna and one rectangular slot antenna, both coupled to each other and excited by the same CPW feed. Largely because of this, it is found that the first two resonant frequencies of the proposed antenna are dependent on the dimensions of the two slot antennas. Also, the two resonant frequencies have the same polarization planes, and both can be excited with good impedance matching. Some prototypes of the proposed dual‐frequency slot antenna have been implemented, and experimental results are presented and discussed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
