A new design of a V‐shape patch antenna for broadband dual‐frequency operation is proposed. The radiating V‐shape patch, supported by nonconducting post, is placed above the ground plane, and an H‐shape coupling slot is cut in the ground plane and centered below the V‐shape patch. Through the H‐shape slot, electromagnetic energy is coupled from a microstrip feed line, printed on the other side of the ground plane, to the V‐shape patch. Experimental results show that the proposed V‐shape patch antenna can perform broadband dual‐frequency operation. The impedance bandwidths, determined from 10 dB return loss, of the two operating frequencies can both be greater than 10%. Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 25: 121–123, 2000.
