CAD‐oriented analytic formulas for calculating the quasistatic TEM parameters of a broadside‐coupled open and dielectric‐overlayed asymmetric coplanar waveguide (BC ACPW) with one lateral ground plane are obtained using the conformal mapping method (CMM) which can provide accurate and fast calculations. The effect of the dielectric overlays on the mode velocity ratio and coupling coefficient are presented and discussed. The accuracy of the closed‐form expressions has been confirmed by comparison with results available in the literature for broadside‐coupled dielectric‐overlayed CPW and broadside‐coupled micro CPW. ©2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
