An analysis of a broadband square planar monopole is presented. The frequency corresponding to the lower edge of the impedance bandwidth may be found by using a simple formula, based on an equivalent cylindrical monopole. To obtain the upper edge frequency accurately, a method‐of‐moments analysis which employs wire gridding is required. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 24: 185–187, 2000.
