A fast and efficient adaptive sampling algorithm is presented. This algorithm is applied to the aggressive space mapping technique to minimize the number and to automate the selection of frequency sample points of the fine model, thus improving the efficiency of space mapping. The new technique is applied to the design of a low‐pass compact rectangular waveguide filter with capacitive step discontinuities. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
