In this paper, a novel and very efficient design method for tapered strip lines used as microwave filters is proposed. This method is carried out starting from the generalized nonuniform transmission‐line theory, and it is based on a new closed analytical form of the voltage reflection coefficient for such lines. Several numerical results are presented to show the capabilities, the accuracy, and the ease of the method developed here. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 24: 67–71, 2000.
