In this letter, a method to determine the sampling intervals for the spline‐type divided‐difference interpolation of spectral integrals is suggested by utilizing simple differentiation of the interpolating function. It improves the numerical efficiency of the recent research based on the spline‐type divided‐difference interpolation scheme. The proposed method is applied to analyze the characteristics of an aperture‐coupled patch antenna. Numerical results obtained by using this approach are in good agreement with those of other approaches. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 23: 361–363, 1999.
