A novel microstrip‐fed slot‐coupled dual‐stacked self‐complementary patch antenna is designed and presented. Measured results show that the impedance bandwidth of the self‐complementary patch antenna is wider than a conventional microstrip‐fed slot‐coupled dual‐stacked patch antenna. Radiation patterns show front‐to‐back ratios of better then 20 dB and low cross‐polarization levels for the self‐complementary patch antenna as compared to the conventional patch antenna. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
