In this paper, a rigorous method‐of‐moments (MoM) solution is given for the problem of determining the hybrid HEM‐mode resonant frequencies and associated quality factors of inhomogeneous dielectric bodies of revolution (BORs). The body of interest may be placed in an arbitrarily stratified dielectric medium, including the case when it is bounded by one or two horizontal perfect electric conductor (PEC) plates. The general modal electric field integral equation is given, which is then specialized to sample geometry and solved numerically. A comparison of obtained data with results given by other authors is given. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 23: 87–92, 1999.
