A novel all‐optical linearization technique of electroabsorption (EA) optical modulators by using a dual modulation scheme is proposed and theoretically investigated. Reductions of the third‐order intermodulation products of ∼30 dB and the subsequent increase of the spurious‐free dynamic range of ∼20 dB were achieved in suboctave narrowband operation. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
