An annular dielectric waveguide having a truncated parabolically graded refractive‐index profile in the guiding region has been analytically studied for cutoff conditions. The thickness effect of the annular guiding region on the cutoff values of the z ‐component of the propagation constant for some lower order modes has been studied for some special cases. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
