Characteristics of a low‐profile square‐disk dielectric resonator (DR) antenna with a very high permittivity excited by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) are experimentally studied. The CPW is open circuited by a rectangular slot which also serves a coupling slot for coupling the electromagnetic energy from the CPW to the square‐disk DR. Also, it is found that, simply by placing the square disk in a suitable position on the CPW, impedance matching can easily be achieved, and good radiation characteristics are also obtained. Details of the experimental results are presented and discussed. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 22: 96–97, 1999.
