A rigorous mode‐matching technique is implemented for the study of the unloaded Q‐factor of a dielectric resonator operating in the TM 01δ ‐mode. Numerical results demonstrate the variation of the unloaded Q‐factor against geometrical and material parameters. Finally, the accuracy of the calculations is verified with comparison to the axial mode‐matching method. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 22: 91–93, 1999.
