This paper presents a novel circular polarization (CP) design of single‐feed annular‐ring‐sector microstrip antennas. Experimental results indicate that, for the annular‐ring‐sector microstrip antenna with a flare angle less than about 64°, there exist a radius ratio (ratio between the patch's outer and inner radii) and a single‐feed position to achieve left‐hand or right‐hand CP radiation. Details of the novel single‐feed CP design are described, and obtained CP performances are presented and analyzed. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 22: 7–10, 1999.
