We propose a novel technique to characterize an electrically tunable liquid‐crystal Fabry–Perot interferometer. Only one usual set of a monochromatic light source and an optical power meter is needed. Various characteristic parameters were estimated based on the equivalent refractive index analysis and the measured voltage‐dependent transmittance. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
