Abstract A causal anisotropic perfectly matched layer is developed for the truncation of the numerical region in the solution of time‐domain unbounded problems. The application of this new absorber to both finite‐difference and finite‐element techniques is presented. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 21: 295–299, 1999.
