This paper discusses the design and measurements of an FET‐driven active flared slot‐line antenna. The antenna radiates a clean spectrum with good radiation patterns. There are half‐power beamwidths of 40 and 63° and CPLs of 14.1 and 10.3 dB below copolarization for the E ‐ and H ‐planes, respectively. The active antenna provides a good dc–RF conversion efficiency of 17.8%. The antenna's low power requirements and good radiation characteristics make it suitable for military and commercial applications for a communication, sensor, or radar transmitter or for spatial power‐combining arrays. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
