Different schemes of dispersion compensation and the cascadability of chirped fiber gratings as dispersion compensators are investigated. It is found that the coupling apodization profiles have great influences on the cascadability of the fiber gratings. In addition, we found that the optimal fiber input power is different for different schemes. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 21: 183–185, 1999.
