Abstract A method of amplifying a signal with any polarization using an active microstrip patch reflectarray is presented. A 12‐element X ‐band polarization‐independent reflection amplifier is then developed to demonstrate the operation of this type of array. Gain, axial ratio, and radiation patterns for this array are presented. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 20: 380–384, 1999.
