Abstract An effective three‐dimensional (3‐D) direct‐transmitted model combined with a patched‐wall model is proposed to explore UHF radio propagation into multistory buildings in a microcellular environment. The model is verified by comparing the computed path loss with the measured one of 1.7 and 2.44 GHz radio waves propagating at different sites. The comparison demonstrates that the model has reasonably accurate prediction when the number of floor levels between the transmitting and the receiving antennas is no more than four. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
