The purpose of this letter is to present an exact line integral representation of the PO field scattered from a penetrable planar structure illuminated by a plane wave. The formulation is valid for an arbitrary position of the observation point. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the procedure, an estimation of the decrease in computation time with respect to the traditional surface integration is reported as a function of the dimensions of the dielectric plate. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
