There is a growing interest in land mobile satellite systems at Ka ‐band for broadband communications. An accurate characterization of shadowing effects is needed to help plan such new systems. Here, the analysis of a measurement campaign carried out in urban and suburban areas in which shadowing effects were recorded is presented. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
