The concept of impedance matching of an infinite microstrip patch array antenna over wide scan angles by means of a coupling circuit in the feed network is investigated. Computed values of input impedance as a function of scan angles were used as input to an optimization program, which minimized the reflection coefficient magnitude over a range of scan angles. The output of the program is the line lengths and coupling susceptances in the E ‐plane and H ‐plane. Preliminary studies show that it is possible to realize such coupling networks. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 19: 252–255, 1998.
