A method for evaluating the admittance of a radial‐line/coaxial‐line junction as seen from the coaxial line is presented. The method is based on the magnetic vector potential, the TEM approximation in the coaxial line, and rotationally symmetric E ‐type modes in the radial line. The method is simpler and more straightforward than the Fourier transformation. When the radial line is terminated by arbitrary impedance, the admittance of the junction is obtained. The result is equivalent to that of Williamson. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 19: 160–164, 1998.
