The diffraction problem of a Gaussian beam wave by finite strip grating on a grounded dielectric for TE polarization is considered. The desired integral equation for the induced surface current density over the strips is derived and solved by the method of moments. Theoretical results for off‐Bragg as well as Bragg blazing in the finite periodic geometry are presented. Some discussions of the Bragg and off‐Bragg blazing phenomena are given. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 18: 433–436, 1998.
