A novel quasianalytical method of the multipole theory (MT) method is presented for analysis of a rectangular transmission line family consisting of a rectangular inner conductor located inside and a rectangular hollow outer conductor. The applied laws and procedures of the MT method are also introduced. The results obtained by the MT method are compared with exact data reported in the literature. The MT method has been proved to be an accurate, reliable, general‐purpose tool for the analysis of rectangular transmission lines. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
