An optically controlled coplanar waveguide gap on silicon has been investigated as a phase shifter. A large phase shift varying between 49 and 76° in the 1.4–12 GHz band is obtained under very low optical power (5 mW). © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 18: 56–58, 1998.
