Phase retardation measurement of single‐mode optical fibers

Two new methods for measuring the phase retardation R of a “nominal” single‐mode optical fiber are demonstrated. One of them is based on the polarization magnitude measure; the other is based on the polarization direction measure. Their effectiveness is confirmed by experiments. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
