The general form of the electromagnetic problem in general media (including lossy and nonreciprocal media) and with the general boundary conditions (including the reactance boundary) is given, the Green formula and its expressions in electromagnetism are introduced, and the generalized functional is presented. It is shown that the available functionals in the literature are special results of the generalized functional, and new applications are also given on the basis of the generalized functional. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
