Based on the duality principle in the mathematical morphological algorithm, we demonstrate a new approach to perform an optical morphological hit–miss transformation by thresholding at 0 level in a two‐channel correlation. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 17: 91–93, 1998.
