Analytical modeling and computer‐aided solution of the model equation have been done to characterize the impedance properties of the resonant‐cap circuit in terms of cavity parameters and frequency. The results of the modeling are in good qualitative agreement with the previous experimental observations, and can also provide a better physical insight regarding the important characteristics of the cap circuit and optimum performance of the cap‐type IMPATT sources. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
