In this letter, the numerical and analytical characteristic modes for perfectly conducting, elliptic cylinders are formally derived, and a comparison between them is presented. A good agreement between numerical and analytical solutions is observed. The analytical solution of the TM scattering from a collection of elliptic cylinders is also given, and results for different configurations are presented. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
