The radiation efficiency of a ferrite‐based four‐element microstrip antenna array is studied both numerically and experimentally inside a plasma medium. Multiresonance peaks are observed with enhanced radiation efficiency in the region where the plasma frequency is less than the operating frequency of the array. This is contrary to the results achieved so far for other antenna arrays, including the microstrip antenna array on dielectric substrate. The experimental findings are in good agreement with the theoretical results. The finding is of paramount significance for satellite and space vehicle communications. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
