A method that uses an integral form of the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation is presented. This method is used to demonstrate the effect of dissipative perturbation on the solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. This equation is associated with propagation of light in optical fibers. Results from the application of this method are replicas of what has been generated through an existing method. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 16: 74–77, 1997.
