This paper shows how mixing formulas can be applied to determining effective properties of complex superlattices in the long‐wavelength limit. In particular, superlattices composed of isotropic chiral layers are examined, and their macroscopic bianisotropic parameters are derived. The six‐vector approach greatly simplifies the calculations required in this project. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 16: 23–27, 1997.
