A novel synthesis technique for reflector‐array feeds is presented. It consists of a quadratic programming algorithm for global optimization with constraints that are used to control the spillover radiation of the antenna. The method is capable of compensating for feed‐phase aberrations and surface distortions, and also provides a prescribed aperture amplitude distribution with constant phase, which is useful to control side‐lobe levels. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
