Fundamental antenna effects of a dielectric substrate backed by a perfectly conducting ground plane and excited by elementary dipoles are studied. The effect of the surface waves and the radiation efficiency as a function of substrate thickness and permittivity are analyzed. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
