Because of mechanical properity, polymer optical waveguide interconnections can increase design flexibility. In this article we analyze the propagation characteristics of the trapezoid polymer optical waveguide by use of the finite‐element method with triangular elements. The trapezoid polymer optical waveguide promises a larger cutoff frequency over the conventional rectangular waveguide. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 15: 87–89, 1997.
