Soliton‐type solutions for the nonlinear wave equation in Kerr‐type nonlinear material with uniaxial chirality are presented. Bisoliton and quadrisoliton states of bright and dark soliton‐type solutions are revealed, respectively. The bright and dark solitons may propagate slower and / or faster than the speed of light traveling in the corresponding linear isotropic material, depending on the degree of chirality. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
