This article presents an analysis of a coaxial‐fed cavity‐backed slot antenna. The electric field distribution along the slot is solved by Galerkin's method with the use of a sinusoidal function. The input impedance is obtained with the use of the complex Poynting theorem in which power flowing out from the cavity is calculated in the spectral domain. The reflection coefficient and input impedance versus frequency are also compared with measurements, and good agreement was observed. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
