The radiation properties from an open‐ended nonradiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide are measured and compared to calculated values, with the use of a simple theory of radiation that is based on the field distribution in the guide. It is found that the theoretical approach is valid. The radiator finds application in large linear antenna arrays. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 14:266–268, 1997.
