Hybrid coded genetic algorithms are applied to the design of multilayered dielectric structures loaded periodically with thin metal strips for use as frequency‐selective surfaces and blazing gratings. The analysis of the devices proceeds via a spectral‐domain method‐of‐moments technique. Results are presented for filter and blazing structures. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
