In this work the scattering of an H‐polarized surface wave from a circular dielectric cylinder and a perfectly conducting infinitely thin open circular screen is analyzed by the use of the surface potential approach. Efficient numerical algorithms have been devised and applications to the band‐stop filters have been discussed. Sample numerical results for the total scattered power and transmission and reflection coefficients are presented. Two types of band‐stop filters are compared. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
