An alternative hybrid method is presented for an evaluation of EM scattering by two‐dimensional (2D) large bodies with cracks and gaps. The hybrid method employs the high‐frequency techniques, the method‐of‐moments (MM), and the equivalence principle. Numerical results demonstrate the accuracy of the hybrid method. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
