The dominant mode of the rectangular‐groove guide has been analyzed by using the method of lines. The field distribution, current distribution, and power density distribution have been calculated and presented. Comparison with the attenuation figures in the literature [1] shows that the present method is efficient and promising. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
