The spectral‐domain analysis of a shielded microstrip attenuator is presented. The microstrip attenuator consisting of a microstrip line covered by lossy material is enclosed inside a housing. With the application of the SDA immitance method, the attenuation factor was determined as a function of physical and material parameters. The numerical results show that the attenuation is most affected with material parameters in the lossy‐layer region. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
