A novel shielded periodic meander line is presented. Its dispersion characteristics are formulated in terms of a rigorous, hybrid‐mode representation and Floquet theorem. Some numerical results are included and good agreements compared with other available data are observed. Finally, a quarter‐wave rectangular cavity with a shielded meander line is designed. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
