This letter, presents a discussion of the solution of general bianisotropic waveguides. General formulas for the field components that are convenient for practical calculations are deducted. The conditions necessary to obtain two independent second‐order differential equations for the longitudinal field components are studied, and features of the solutions of bianisotropic waveguides are discussed. Our formulas have clear physical meaning and are easily incorporated into computer programs. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
